Deuces: Exchanges

File_004 (1)Numerical Value: 2

Numerical Nature: Youth, reconcile, interaction.

Keywords: Exchanges, attraction, balance

General Remarks

The deuces tend to represent the nature of interactions as dictated by the suit. While the aces indicate opportunity, the twos represent the initial stages of beginning something. Whenever I see a number of them in a reading, I know that whatever I am reading about is pertaining to something relatively new and young, whether it represents sorting through the preliminary work for beginning a business, a minor spat, or even children. Very seldom do the deuces indicate the mature development of a situation.

Philosophical Perspective

While with the number one we had a relatively solid principle of the self and identity, with the number two we look at the manner by which the individual engages opposite ideas. The two represents the moment when an individual recognizes that there is another outside the self, which is considered most comfortable and stable. In the end, we can only truly justify the existence and certainty of our own, but now with another person, we are forced to acknowledge and reconcile our perceived isolation. We must now reconsider if we are truly the center of the universe, or simply the center of our own universe. We have to question our importance and stance.

Through duality we have the ability to compare, contrast, and further understand our own true nature through the conflicts and interaction of an other. I am this, but I am not that. I believe this, but not that. I disagree with this, but I agree with that. I am like this, but she is like that. Why are we different?

Example

A woman is doing research and sorting her thoughts (2S) about the manner by which to begin her business. She knows she will have to pay (2D) her employees and give them benefits (2C), and she also knows that offer robust benefits will attract (2H) talented workers.

3’s: Growth

Numerical Value: 3

Numerical Nature: Organization and disorganization.

Keywords: expansion, surprises, interruption

General Remarks

When threes appear in a reading it can indicate that things are being built towards an end in accordance to the nature of its suit. You’ve been given an offer, you’ve considered accepting it, and now you’re actually working on it. The threes are some of my favorite cards in the deck, even the 3 of spades in a lonely, bitter, and sadistic way.

Threes can also indicate third parties and interventions, and to see a number of threes in a reading could indicate that there are a lot of external parties involved a situation. If anything, it can indicate that things are about to get interesting.

Philosophical Perspective

The normal line of thought that the third party is a union of the one and two, but it can also represent different developmental phases or trinities:

Mother, Father, and Child.
Maiden, Mother, and Chrone.
Sulfur, Salt, Mercury.

Example

Anne and Joe were on a date celebrating Anna’s birthday when a mutual friend, Steven, interrupted (3S). Steven had a business idea and he was trying to get Anna and Joe on board as business partners (3C). After politely declining, scatterbrained (3D) Steven finally realized that he was interrupting their outing and hastily left, while dropping about .30 cents in change (3D). Unphased by Steven’s clumsiness, Anna’s attention shifted to her lover as he whispered something into the waitress’s ear. Suddenly, she found herself surrounded by waitstaff who began ritually clapping in unison as they began singing Happy Birthday to her and ushered in a birthday cake. Anna Was speechless at the surprise (3H). She felt overwhelming waves of joy that was only amplified when her beau gave her a bouquet of flowers (3H) and a kiss on the lips.

Aces: Beginnings

File_000 (1)

Numerical Value: 1

Numerical Nature: Change and transitions, importance and significance

Keywords: News, Letters, Beginnings, Offers, Opportunity

General Remarks

Aces are one of the most pleasant cards to see in a reading, in my opinion, and of course with some exceptions. I personally almost always welcome change, and so long as the Ace of Spades is not among one of the aces, I’m a pretty happy camper whenever I see it in a spread. All aces signify something significantly different occurring in one’s life, and the nature of the change will be indicated by the suit.

Should these cards not refer to news or general life changes, it could represent distinctive buildings or organizations that are represented in the nature of its suit. It could also indicate important documents as well.

Now, keep in mind, not everyone has the same stomach to handle changes and transitions, so definitely look at the surrounding cards to see if these changes are causing the querent worry or joy.

Philosophical Perspective

The number one is often associated with the self, one’s identity, and the ego. It symbolizes unity and indivisibility. With this in mind, there is a sense of certainty represented by the┬ánumber one that is not always present in other numbers.

Example

There was once a client who was offered a job in a city (AD) where he was also accepted into college (AC). He had recently gone through a break up with his girlfriend, but he was hopeful that he would find someone new. In matter of fact, he was beginning to fall in love with a girl he met while visiting the city (AH). Despite all of the change, he was feeling uncertain as to how the move would affect his financial standing or even the budding relationship (AS). He knew that the shift would be tough, but he saw the change as an opportunity to make some important personal reforms.
